Liberty bids $10M to bankruptcy court for control of Channelside Bay Plaza

By Eric Snider – Tampa Bay Business Journal

Liberty Channelside, the developer that declined to make an official bid in an auction for control of Channelside Bay Plaza last week, has filed a motion in federal bankruptcy court objecting to the proceedings and issuing a new bid that exceeds $10 million.

That trumps the $7.1 million winning bid by Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik, which was pre-approved by Port Tampa Bay.

Liberty offered $7 million last year, but Port Tampa Bay ultimately rejected it, and the matter has been bitterly contested in court since then. The port owns the land under Channelside Bay Plaza, and has maintained it has final say in what developer takes control.

Liberty asks the court to accept its offer and disregard the prior auction. Its bid also includes prepayment of five years rent and five years of parking fees.
